About Me

Welcome! My name is Michele Sisell, and I am a National Breast Imaging Consultant, Educator, International Speaker, and Author with more than 25 years of experience dedicated to advancing breast imaging through clinical excellence, education, accreditation, and quality improvement.

Since becoming a registered Radiologic Technologist in 1998, I have devoted my career to helping improve breast imaging services for patients and healthcare professionals alike. I became certified in Mammography in 2005 and Breast Sonography in 2011, giving me the opportunity to develop extensive expertise across multiple breast imaging modalities. Throughout my career, I have worked in both large academic medical centers and community-based breast imaging programs, allowing me to understand the unique challenges and opportunities that exist within a variety of practice settings.

My clinical career began in my hometown, where I spent more than 22 years serving as a mammographer and Lead Breast Sonographer in a Women's Health Pavilion. In 2020, I joined Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where I currently serve in the Department of Breast Imaging. During my time at Mayo Clinic, I have had the privilege of serving as the Breast Imaging Department Lead and contributing to educational initiatives, quality improvement, and staff development within one of the nation's premier healthcare institutions.

My passion for education led me to become an independent breast imaging consultant in 2018. Since that time, I have partnered with organizations throughout the United States to provide consulting services, accreditation support, continuing education, and customized training programs for breast imaging professionals. I have assisted facilities with mammography and breast ultrasound education, ACR accreditation preparation, MQSA compliance, corrective action plans, quality improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and the successful startup and accreditation of new breast imaging departments.

Education has always been at the heart of my career. I have taught mammography and breast sonography students, developed certification review programs, and presented continuing education courses for healthcare professionals across the United States and internationally. I have also developed educational webinars and professional training programs for organizations including the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), Medical Technology Management Institute (MTMI), Medical Professionals, Fujifilm Healthcare Solutions, and Mayo Clinic.

I am honored to contribute to the profession through my volunteer work with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as both an Item Writer for Mammography and Breast Sonography certification examinations and as a former member of the Breast Sonography Practice Analysis Committee, helping ensure certification examinations reflect current clinical practice.

My commitment to advancing breast imaging education has also extended into publishing. I am the lead revising author of the 5th Edition of Mammographic Imaging: A Practical Guide and have served as a reviewer for Lange Q&A: Mammography Examination and Mammography & Breast Imaging Prep. These opportunities have allowed me to collaborate with physician experts while translating the latest evidence-based research into educational resources that support technologists throughout their careers.

Throughout my career, I have worked with all major mammography manufacturers, including Hologic, GE HealthCare, Siemens Healthineers, and Fujifilm, and have developed strong collaborative relationships with industry leaders committed to advancing breast imaging technology.

Above all, I am passionate about helping others succeed. Whether I am mentoring a new mammographer, assisting a facility through accreditation, presenting at a national conference, consulting on a quality improvement initiative, or supporting a healthcare team through education, my goal remains the same—to improve breast imaging, advance professional excellence, and ultimately enhance the care provided to every patient.

I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools we have to improve patient outcomes. It is an honor to work alongside dedicated healthcare professionals who share a commitment to excellence, compassion, and the early detection of breast cancer. I look forward to continuing to serve the breast imaging community through education, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
